Meet the McDonald family. I had the pleasure of meeting them a few weeks ago when I photographed this amazing military homecoming. It was the most touching family reunion I have ever seen. First of all Dave hadn’t seen his lovely wife Melakeh in 1 year. His little boy Everett was 1 1/2 when he left and he had never held or met his baby Easton who is now 6 moths old. So you can just imagine how much emotion was felt with this reunion. Few times do I tear up during a session let alone have tears just streaming down my cheeks. But I was so overcome watching their love for one another and excitement to be reunited that I just couldn’t hold it in!
Dave arrived 2 hours earlier than we expected. So that first image is him still waiting for his sweet family to arrive. And the next his pure joy when he starts heading towards the car. Him picking up Everett (the older son) out of the car and so happy that he remember that this was his Daddy!! It touched me so deeply because I can’t imagine worrying if your son will remember you and be excited to see you again. He was and couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear seeing his awesome Daddy again. And then he went to Easton, holding both boys for a moment and just hugging as a family. When he held Easton alone for the first time it was the most emotional moment of the entire morning. Dave said to his son “I’m your Daddy” and I tell you I just couldn’t stop crying. The rest of the images are Dave holding Everett while he walked back and forth getting his luggage to the car – you could tell Dave didn’t want to put him down. And then his sweet son handing his Dad a flag – I melted!!! Enjoy the rest of the images. Thank you so much McDonald Family for your amazing sacrifice you have made for our country. I am so grateful for all members of the military past and present for their service. And thank you for letting me be part of this special moment when your family became whole again. It was the most beautiful thing to witness and touched me more than you know.
